The use and disassembly of tricycle tire

1.      The reason of tire premature wear and tire premature damage

a.       Driving with under-inflated tire will increase tire wear area and cause damage. Then badly ruptured tire may cause tire burst after inflation.

On the other hand, too high pressure of tire will accelerate tire wear in middle positon, decrease cushioning effect and increase tricycle vibration. Drive for a long time in hot weather, the temperature of tire will increase, then the pressure will increase too. Which will easily lead to tire burst.

Therefore the air pressure of tire should not be too high or too low. By regulation the pressure of front tire is 608.0kPa and rear tire is 283.7kPa. In the end the traveling time should not be too long in hot weather; in long distance transport, please have a rest timely to refrigerate tire (please do not water overheating tire for fear of damage ); please try to avoid sudden brake to reduce partial abrasion of tire.

b.       Sometimes the inner and outer tire will be punctured by sharp object such as nails, which will increase frequency of tire dismounting and tire repair, then lead to premature damage. So in driving please keep an eye on the road, avoid sharp object as possible as you can.

c.       Driving with non-pressure tire will damage the inner tube and fracture outer tire. Once you find air leakage of tire causing by puncture or valve core malfunction (the sign is direction instability and obvious insufficient power), please stop immediately.

d.       Incorrect dismounting is another reason of tire premature damage. Mostly owing to tire lever pierces the inner tube and tire bead or brakes steel wire of outer tire. These will cause the inner tire to slide out after inflation, then cause tire burst.

2.      The disassembly of tire

Please deflate the air of inner tube before disassembly. Remove valve core and fixing nut of cycle valve, then hammer at tire bead to disengage it from steel rim. Meanwhile push cycle valve into steel rim. After that thrust tire lever between tire bead and steel rim near cycle valve, pry up tire bead and compress tire wall forcibly at the opposite direction of the tire lever, try to make the outer tire move to the groove at the smallest diameter of tire rim. Then thrust second tire lever into tire near the first one and pry up tire bead gradually along the tire rim.

 If the disassembly of tire is difficult or the tire lever can’t pry up the outer tire, please find out reasons timely and avoid lengthen the tire lever blindly, otherwise the tire bead may damage or the steel rim may break. If the outer tire is difficult or can’t move to the groove at the smallest diameter of tire rim, mostly because the inner tube is stuck between the tire bead and tire rim, in this case please push the inner tube into the outer tire carefully with tire lever then go on dismounting. If the stiffness of outer tire is large, the grease coated on tire lever will help.

3.      The assembly of tire

Before assembly please check whether the tire rim is contorted, whether inner tube is deflated, whether the casing is broken and whether the inner wall has nail or dirt, etc. Which is to prevent operating trouble after assembly.

First please slip tire flap over tire rim, then coat talcum powder on inner wall of outer tire and outer wall of inner tube. After that slip one side of outer tire over tire rim. Put the cycle valve of inner tube align with the circular hole of tire rim, then thrust inner tube into the gap between tire bead and tire rim. After that take out the cycle valve from the circular hole of tire rim and put on valve cap. Next, pry tire bead into tire rim with tire lever at the opposite direction of cycle valve and compress the tire bead to move it to the groove at the smallest diameter of tire rim. At the time of prying the last tire bead, compress the tire bead with one tire lever, thrust into another tire lever, then pry up tire bead into tire rim bit by bit with the help of treading or hammering.

Attention should be paid to following issues in assembly: 

  1. don’t thrust the tire lever too deep, so as to avoid piercing the inner tube or breaking steel wire of outer tire.

  2. The cycle valve should be trued up. Under semi pneumatic condition, rotating tire left and right can adjust cycle valve.

  3. Uniform contact between tire bead and tire rim is important, leaning to one side is inadvisable. Adjust method is hitting against the ground with outer peripheral portion of tire or beating tire with hammer under semi pneumatic condition.

  4. Unscrewing or taking down valve core is to the benefit to air inflation. Then considering pressure loss when assemble valve core, the inflation pressure should be higher than recommended pressure.
